Diane Salters MSc
Diane Salters MSc. TSTA (P) trained in TA in the 1980s, mainly with Petruska Clarkson. She considers herself fortunate to have trained at a time when it was usual to receive training from many people and was privileged to have received training from Richard Erskine, Rebecca Trautmann, Ken Mellor, Jacqui Schiff, Fanita English, Bob and Mary Goulding, Claude Steiner, Margaret Turpin, Adrienne Lee and Gordon Law. All of these, in some way, informed her development as a therapist and trainer.
She worked in both the private sector and the National Health Service in the UK and then returned to her native country South Africa in 1993 following the release of Nelson Mandela.
There she became involved in local government and community development for some years…still using TA in those contexts… before taking up her psychotherapy work again and completing her TSTA.
Currently she lives and works in Cape Town and offers psychotherapy locally and via skype. She occasionally works with the Wealden Institute in the UK and offers supervision there and to other trainees via skype.
At the moment she is finding that her own work is pushed into the background by her commitments as President of the ITAA. She is proud to serve in that role and pleased to be working with a very strong team on the Board of Trustees.
She has had four trips to India in the past and loves working there and learning from the Indian perspective. So many of the issues that people face in India resonate with her South African experience, particularly the impact of traditional cultural and gender scripting. The challenge, as she sees it, is to celebrate out roots and community while also finding our own personal freedom.
